Antibiotics may produce more gas because of disruption of the normal bacterial flora. Excess use of laxatives is also the cause of excess gas formation. Constipation makes it difficult to pass gas. Food intolerance such as intolerance to lactose present in milk and milk products or because of the presence of guten, a protein present in wheat and other grains. Intolerance to artificial additives such as sorbitol or mannitol present in sugar free gums and candies.

Reducing foods which make you feel gassy and uncomfortable may keep gas formation at bay. Eat slowly and chew your food well. Try and reduce the amount of air you swallow by avoiding smoking, reducing gum chewing, sucking on hard candies or drinking aerated drinks. Drinking from a glass is better than sucking in from a straw or drinking from a bottle. Poorly fitting dentures too can increase the amount of air you swallow.

Ingredients
¼ cup atta
¼ cup maida
¾ cup coconut milk
¼ tsp soda bi-carb
2tsp powdered sugar
¼ cup chopped cashewnuts
Butter for cooking, salt
1cup melted kissan pineapple jam.
Method
1. mix atta, maida, coconut milk, soda bi-carb and suagr in a bowl, add water if required to make a thick batter
2. heat a non-stick pan, pour 2 spoonfuls of the batter to make a circle
3. Sprinkle 1tsp of the cashew nuts on each pancake and press it lightly.
4. cook on both sides using little oil till turns golden brown
5. repeat with the remaining batter to make some more pancakes
6. Evenly spread warm kissan pineapple jam on pancakes.
Melting oranges

Ingredients
3tsp chopped agar-agar
¼ cup kissan orange jam
¼ cup sugar+ 2tsp sugar to caramelize
3tsp custard powder
21/2 cups milk
Method
1. Soak the agar agar in ¾ cup of cold water for 1 hr. simmer until it becomes a velar liquid. Keep aside
2. Add the sugar and 1 tsp water in a 6” pudding mould and cook until it becomes brown. Spread it evenly at the base of the mould.
3. mix the kissan orange jam and sugar and melt on a low flame till the sugar is dissolved
4. Mix the custard powder in ½ cup of cold milk. Keep aside.
5. Boil the remaining milk, add the custard mix and cook till it thickens a little.
6. Add agar agar liquid. Boil for 2 minutes. Strain and cool it slightly.
7. add the jam mixture and pour in the mould
8. Refrigerate till it sets.
9. Before serving, loosen the sides with knife and invert on a plate.
Panchratni seekh

20g toovar dal
20g urad dal
20g moong dal
20g black dal
2tsp butter
2tsp cream
A small bowl of bread-crumbs
Method
- pressure-cook the dals with less water and keep aside
- grind them finely in a mixer to get coarse consistency
- now sauté the dal mixture in butter
- Mix in the cream and bread crumbs and sauté well.
- put the mixture on seekh and roast in a tandoor for 10-12 minutes
- Remove, cut into cylindrical-shaped pieces and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
